we provide exceptional care in a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment

At the heart of impactful therapy is the relationship that you and your therapist build together. We provide a safe space for you to share your real and unedited self, and to have that be received without judgement. Our approach is to bring clinical expertise and experience, and work with you in partnership - listening, supporting, joining, challenging, and empowering you to achieve your therapeutic goals.

We are dedicated to providing our clients with high-quality, modern mental health care. For way too long, the field of psychology has remained clinical and exclusive, adding to the stigma and inaccessibility around mental health. We’re over that. We believe that therapy can be a transformative experience, and our approach is to work with you through genuine collaboration, and no fuss. Let’s begin.

"What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversations."

  • Finding the right therapist can be a bit of a process. Start by thinking about what has you reaching out and see if those concerns align with the therapist’s areas of focus. Most therapists have a particular population that they work with, like couples or children, and specific concerns, such as anxiety or trauma. Don’t be shy about scheduling a first call so that both you and the therapist can make an initial determination about fit. Ask questions about their approach and experience, and be honest when discussing your concerns. Know that talking to someone for the first time can feel awkward or uncomfortable, but trust your gut - if it feels right, it often is. A good relationship with anyone, including your therapist, depends largely on the connection, so look for that.

  • We work with women, couples, children, teen girls, and families to address a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, relational issues, family dynamics, and school-based challenges. Our approach is to be in partnership with you - listening, supporting, joining, challenging, and empowering you to achieve your therapeutic goals.

  • Contact us to schedule a complimentary 20 minute call. The call is for you and your therapist to learn more about each other, and to understand if our services align with your needs. Use the form on our Contact page or schedule an introductory call by emailing us at hello@smallseedtherapy.com.

  • First appointments are known as intake sessions. These sessions go over the paperwork previously sent to you to ensure clarity around matters such as informed consent, confidentiality and privacy practices, fees and policies, and your therapist’s credentials and approach. We also discuss your history and reasons for seeking treatment. This session often feels more administrative in nature, but it sets the stage for the therapeutic process to begin.

  • At your request, your therapist will provide a receipt of services, also called a superbill, to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. It is important that you check with your provider prior to beginning services to determine your plan’s out-of-network coverage. We cannot guarantee reimbursement.

  • In addition to our physical space, we offer a virtual option to women, couples, and some teens to make therapy more accessible and flexible. Teletherapy is not offered to younger children and families.

Instead of meeting your therapist in-office, you’ll meet via video conferencing. Your therapist will send you a link to join a video call and your session will progress as it would in-person. As long as you have a reliable internet connection and a quiet, private space to talk, you can meet with your therapist virtually, from the comfort of your home.

  • Working with children, adolescents, and teens is one of our areas of expertise. Parents come to us with various concerns about their children such as anxiety, depression, school-related challenges, and emotional dysregulation. With younger clients, we use art, story, and play as a vehicle to explore their thoughts and feelings. We implement individualized strategies, created with their buy-in, to understand their experience, shift behaviors, and improve family dynamics. With teen girls, therapy centers around meaningful, but down-to-earth conversation that helps them navigate their personal development, academic demands, personal and parental expectations, peer dynamics, finding their voice, implementing self-advocacy skills, and combating the harms of social media.

Parent participation is required because your involvement is essential for treatment and progress. Your therapist will provide regular updates, skills to practice at home, and will include you in sessions on occasion when clinically appropriate. Children can’t change in isolation; they need you to support the hard work they’ll be doing in therapy.

That said, we ask that you respect your child’s need for confidentiality with regard to the specific details shared during sessions. Know that we will always take steps to keep your child and others safe when there appears to be an imminent risk, but otherwise, we honor confidentiality.

  • All appointments must be canceled at least 48 hours in advance or the full fee will be charged.
